Capitano's Animal of the Day: Day 1
Dec. 7th, 2023 07:37 amHello! New little thing I'm doing in our private discord server; Capitano's Animal of the Day! This is because I have an hyperfixation on almost everything animal-related (I know that's a big spectrum, but still.)
Today's animal of the day is the Frogmouth!
Scientific name: Podargidae
Origin: Australia (Though typically distributed in the Indomalayan and Australasian realms)
Lifespan: 30+ in captivity, about 14 in the wild.
Related to: Owlet-nightjars, Swifts, Potoos, and (surprisingly) Hummingbirds.
Type: Ambush predator
Recognizable by (in my opinion): Their beak and mouth shape/size, Eye appearance and distance, "squished" looking faces, and feathers
Fun facts:
-These birds are nocturnal
-From the side, it looks like they have eyes on the sides of their heads.
